The LSD Method:
I was only allowed one book during my military training. As such, I brought with me the Bhagavad Gita, as I was only allowed reading a single religious text.
The Bhagavad Gita shed light upon many subjects, but its teachings on duty and purpose stood out to me, as I was in the process of searching for my own at the time.
From this inquiry, The L.S.D. (Listen, Search, Do) framework came to be. It’s a method for determining your highest purpose in just 3 weeks.
- L → Listen (week 1): listen for divine inspiration. The thing is that you’re not receptive to divine inspiration when your mind is blocked. There are 3 major agents of conditioning that are blocking your mind. They are as follows:
- (1) Parental conditioning e.g., your parents want you to go into engineering but you have no interest whatsoever in pursuing that career path. To this end, it’s important that you have the difficult conversation with your parents asap. It’s going to be uncomfortable, you will disappoint people, but remember that the worst possible case scenario here, is that you let yourself down by denying your own destiny.
- (2) Social conditioning: social conditioning of all kinds will be exerted upon you, depending on your race, gender, and other demographic qualities.
- Certain expectations and stereotypes are imposed on people based on their immutable characteristics e.g., if you’re white, then you must be privileged, if you’re black, then you must be poor and therefore coddled by society because apparently you’re not equipped enough to seize the reins of life on your own, and if you’re a women in today’s social climate, you must forget wanting to become a mom and instead aim to be a girlboss.
- Your weapon against social conditioning is the lost art of the contemplative walk. Classical men used to go on leisurely strolls out in nature to open their minds and become receptive to divine intervention. In doing so, you must trace your thoughts back to where your social conditioning began.
- (3) Chemical conditioning: Parasites, EMFs, and estrogenics all have effects on the nervous system. It’s therefore important that you purge yourself of them, as soon as you can.
- Search (Week 2): Plumb the depths of your mind in search of core memories. What activities did you commit to when left alone as a kid? For example, reading, drawing, music, running around, etc. To this end, consider assessing your relationship with the 6 types of intelligence:
- Linguistic Intelligence: Word-based skills in speaking and writing. Example goal: Create life-changing essays and lectures. Example of someone with linguistic intelligence: Jordan Peterson.
- Logical and Mathematical Reasoning: Example goal: Solve mathematical problems to advance science. Example of someone with logical and mathematical reasoning: Ben Shapiro is someone who uses logical/mathematical reasoning.
- Musical Intelligence: Do you seek to elevate the human soul using music?
- Spatial/Visual Intelligence: Ability to manipulate 3D objects. Fighter pilots often have a strong understanding of this. Navy seals like Jocko Willink have great visual/spatial intelligence.
- Social Intelligence: Example: Hamza's goal to end young men's addictions to pornography by showing empathy towards them.
- Whichever one you possess will likely align with your duty.
- You might come up with various purpose possibilities. What’s important is that you try each possibility out for at least 21 days to gather data.
- Do (Week 3): execute on your purpose for a week to get feedback.
- E.g., with entrepreneurship: Solve a real-life problem. For example, I had a bathrobe business venture which sought to address the issue of wet sleeves (say from washing dishes) that come with the inability to roll up robe sleeves. The solution: a button-up sleeve robe. This business did end up flopping for a number of reasons, but it brought a level of confidence that I would have otherwise never had, had I not pursued my entrepreneurial purpose in this regard.
- Remember, failing at your duty is still a success.
- You have a limited window of unlimited opportunity in life. Spend 3 weeks of this year to explore this method. Search into childhood memories, figure out potential paths of purpose, but execute on one at a time to see if it suits you.
- Resistance: Divine inspiration pulls you towards your destiny, while resistance pulls you away. It only appears when you're doing something important to you. For example, I was delaying starting on YouTube because of the irrational fear that parents and friends would discover and watch my videos. However, the realization that duty overrides everything changed this mindset.
- Homework: Go on a contemplative walk, ideally outdoors, or pace in your own room undistracted, with a pencil and paper. Write your thoughts down, especially if you’re struck with divine inspiration. Report back with your findings in the comments of the video.
